What's my starting point in building a site: Content, Content, Content. This means respecting and understanding the client's content and its purpose and to build a site that matches up with the client's vision for this content.
Besides the content, other areas to consider:
Images. What images will portray the meaning and feel of a website. Are they good enough quality, royalty free? Who will prepare: crop, style, and web prepare?
Typography. Determine type colors, fonts, and sizes and how will they work together.
Information. Header and Footer integration with clear and concise navigation and purpose. This includes copyright, terms & policies, and address info.
Calls to actions. What are the take-aways from each page. What are the readers' next steps. It might be a newsletter sign-up, a contact form, information download, etc.
Responsive? How will it look with all the common browsers and on mobile devices?
Hosting and Internet Happiness. Secure domain address, create hosting service, DNS pointers, analytics, and ongoing site maintenance.

I’m a Berkeley engineering alumni and have worked in Silicon Valley for over 20 years. After a grand simplification of my life, I’ve gratefully settled into the world of freelance website design. I love the creative outlet this affords and look forward every day to new challenges.
I am skilled in Wordpress, Wordpress Multi-Site, HTML, CSS, PHP, jQuery, and with a toolbox consisting of Adobe CS5 with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, inDesign, and Illustrator. I run a local Windows server and provide internet hosting services. I work mainly in WordPress but have experience with pure HTML, some Joomla and Dolphin, and these combined experiences makes for very flexible and robust website designs.
